Dr Daniel Pitt

Although not from a farming background, agriculture has been at the heart of Dan's academic and professional journey. He studied genetics at Cardiff University, going on to complete a PhD focused on domestication and selection in livestock. His research has largely concentrated on a wide panel of cattle breeds, including a strong emphasis on native breeds and how management and the environment have shaped the genetic diversity we see today.

Since completing his studies, Dan has been part of the AHDB Animal Genetics team, where he helps lead the delivery of the UK national dairy evaluation programme. This work plays a crucial role in ensuring genetic data is translated into practical improvements for the UK dairy sector, supporting the breeding of healthy, productive and sustainable cattle.

A keen advocate for evidence-based breeding, Dan is excited to contribute to BCBC and continue promoting the use of genetics as a tool for progress across the industry.
