Dr Harriet Bunning, Vice Chair of the British Cattle Breeders Club

Vice Chair

Harriet is the lead animal genetics expert for beef at AHDB. Alongside her work supporting beef breed societies, Harriet looks after the National Beef Evaluations, providing EBVs for all breeds and crossbreds across the beef sector. In her spare time she is involved with some of the less common cattle breeds, keeping a small herd of Belted and Riggit Galloway cattle on the family farm in Devon. She is a council member for the Belted Galloway Cattle Society and enjoys bringing cattle out to her local shows. She joined AHDB from SRUC in Edinburgh, where she worked as a researcher. During her PhD she looked at crossbreeding strategies for smallholder farmers in Kenya, but her more recent work investigated the genetics behind climate resilience and meat quality for beef cattle in the UK.
